The G45 is a great choice for duty and home-defense. It’s also one of Glock’s best-selling guns. It’s the civilian version of the gun Glock submitted for the military’s Modular Handgun System contract, which ultimately lost out to Sig’s 320 MHS. Its civilian cousin, the G19X, has a few changes but for all practical purposes they are the same gun.
Features
If you’ve never owned a Glock 45 before or you have only one in your collection the model 45 is definitely worth considering. This compact crossover pistol, chambered in 9x19mm, combines a G17 frame with a G19 slide offering Gen 5 features like interchanging backstraps and partially preloaded safe action triggers as well as ambidextrous controls, an improved Browning locking system, a funnel-shaped magwell and an ion bonded nDLC finish.
It’s also a lot smaller than a G19X making it easier to clear a duty holster with a quick draw. Other notable features include front serrations, a flared magazine well and a reversible magazine release button. There is no lanyard loop but that’s a moot point if you carry a holster designed for your specific weapon.
Design
When Glock submitted their Model 19X in coyote tan to the Army Modular Handgun System trials, they were hoping it would be chosen for service. While it didn’t win, it was a good test of how well the pistol performed in a real life situation.
The G45 MOS combines the compact slide and frame of the 19X with Gen 5 features to create a unique service pistol. The frame is subdued black and has a flared magazine well for faster reloading. The gun has a smoother trigger pull, enhanced texture for sure handling, reversible magazine catch, ambidextrous slide stop lever and the Modular Backstrap System for individual adjustability.
The slide has the superior Glock hard-surface finish nDLC in non-reflective black and front serrations to help an operator grip the pistol.
Accuracy
The G45 is a great choice for LE officers or military personnel who need a full-sized service pistol. Its shorter barrel allows it to clear a duty holster more quickly and reduces the amount of time it takes for an officer to draw and fire.
This Gen 5 design incorporates a smooth trigger, enhanced frame texture for sure handling, reversible magazine catch, ambidextrous slide stop lever and Modular Backstrap System for individual adjustability. It also boasts a flared magazine well for rapid reloads in the field.
The G45 is accurate enough for most use cases. It can shoot a grouping of 1.5 inches at 10 yards, which is the distance most law enforcement officer shootings take place. It is optics-ready, so you can mount a red dot or other sights on it.
Reliability
Glocks are renowned for their reliability, and the 45 is no exception. Whether you want to mount a red-dot sight or not, this is a reliable duty pistol for law enforcement officers. The G45 MOS is very similar to the G19 Gen 5, with both pistols having a 4-inch barrel, an ambidextrous slide release latch, forward cocking serrations, and a reversible magazine catch.
Both pistols feature the same superior Glock hard-surface finish nDLC in non-reflective black, and front serrations that provide a tactile surface choice for manual manipulation during loading, unloading, malfunction clearing or press checking to confirm that there is a round in the chamber. They also have a loaded-chamber indicator that identifies the presence of a live round. The grips are slightly different, with the G45 having a longer grip for shooters with larger hands.
More Words
Glock pistols are durable and dependable, offering excellent value for their price. This is especially true of Glock 45 models. The Glock 45 combines the compact slide of a Glock 19 with a full-size frame, providing a balanced design that offers both maneuverability and stability. It also accommodates 17 rounds in a standard magazine, which makes it an ideal choice for law enforcement and civilian use.
Gen 5 models feature nDLC finishes, rough frame texture, ambidextrous slide stop lever and reversible magazine release. They also include a Glock Marksman barrel for improved accuracy and flared magwells for easier reloading. Some shooters complain about the trigger of the Glock, but it’s actually a very good trigger for a factory firearm. It has a small amount of stiff resistance to the wall, then a smooth break that’s very direct.
